Sniper Rifles

Post by Gabriel »

Hey all,

My question is regarding sniper rifles for this event. I noticed a discrepancy in the posted rules on the site. The "field rules" read this way:

3.6.3 The SNIPER from each team may use sniper FPS qualified weapons. Sniper FPS weapons must either be bolt action or permanently fixed semi-automatic guns (unable to fire automatic without complete disassembly).

The "CQB" rules run this way:

4.5 A Sniper must carry a Sniper Rifle and a sidearm. NO MODIFIED AEGs will be allowed as a Sniper Rifle. Sniper rifles must be fielded by pre-approved players for the role of sniper, and weapons used must be pre-approved as well.

The main question is whether Semi-only AEG's will qualify as SWS's.

Oh, and this is not idle speculation. I was assigned as Delta 1/1 Sniper for OPIV. Thanks!

OPI since OPI II has followed "CQB" rules since it has been mainly a CQB environment. It is not a discrepancy per say, rules from one venue and event site to another may change slightly to accomodate gameplay, personnel, and environment. Sniper weapons for OPI are approved on a case by case basis if they are semi auto only. First and foremost however, the "Sniper Team" must be approved, then their weapons of choice submitted for approval, which is usually done through the chain of command on each side who forward requests through staff.

What about AEG's modded to serve as a DMR, that is High velocity in semi-only fire mode?

Many people do. The question is, what do you want to accomplish with the modification? Your question is a little too vague to answer in a nutshell, so I would direct you to www.google.com for further searching.

FIELD COMBAT RULES;

3.6 SNIPER AND ASSIST CLASS

"3.6.3 The SNIPER from each team may use sniper FPS qualified weapons. Sniper FPS weapons must either be bolt action or permanently fixed semi-automatic guns (unable to fire automatic without complete disassembly)".

I ran an SR-25 last year.
Mod'ed to fire in SEMI-ONLY, I met this and had NO ISSUES.

Good point Bear,
What I was getting at was that I didn't know if anyone made a semi auto M14 or if you had to mod them after purchase or even if that was possible. On the M4 (I said wrong) I ment like the M16 SPR, could it be made semi only with after-market parts. The reason I asked was that some units use accurized M14s (M21s) as sniper rifles.

First off, sniper's are hand picked by the command staff of each side, so if you haven't been nominated as one, there's no use in wasting your money for something you can't use at the game.

Secondly, yes, weapons can be modded to fire semi auto only. There are major upgrade companies like Q project on the west coast, but their upgrades are fairly expensive and they're on the other side of the country from you, so you'd probably be best to try and find some local repair shops .

If you're a DMR then you follow riflemen rules, just pick your shots better than everyone else.

I roll with an M15A4 SPR shooting right at 375 with .25s.

Refer to TANGO's post above for the correct ruling on what is allowable as a "sniper weapon". As for the sniper team roles, anyone who is a paid entrant to the event may submit a request to the leadership on their side to be one of the limited designated snipers or spotters for their side. Sniper teams are comprised of a sniper and spotter, and often act as a sniper/recon team for their side as needed. When leadership positions are filled for each side and rosters are posted, you may submit your requests for these positions at that time to them. If you need assistance with contact info for them (after the rosters are posted), PM or email me and I can help.

At this time, there are no designated DMR roles on either side on any squads that allow a higher FPS that the Rifleman class, but you may use any DMR type weapon that passes the normal Rifleman class Chrono Limit.

DMR classes would be cool though wouldn't they? We're using pistols inside anyway, so maybe in years to come that would happen. IDK though, it's whatever the leadership says.

You do realize you can still be a a DMR, right? You just have to follow riflemen FPS rules.

I know, it just doesn't quite accuritely relate to real DM. They have guns that can effectivly engage enemies from further away. They aren't just good shots, they have custom guns too.
