Quick Question on Goggles

I am working on getting my gear read to go for this OP and I have a question on Goggles. When we have attended Night Scorpion we were able to use mesh goggles, but in the Irene OPs full seal were required. I understand why that was necessary at Irene being in a full MOUT environment, but I wanted to know if we could use mesh at SOCO because it seems to be more like Night Scorpion.

Thanks,

Re: Quick Question on Goggles

need clarification... is it full seal eyepro, or full seal goggle?

I have a pair of modified flakjaks that i have basically added some more holes for ventilation but none of the holes are bigger than a bb. I know these are more than ok for this op.

for heat reasons though i'd rather wear something along these lines

these have a full seal. are these legal eyepro for this op? or must it be full seal goggle?
if its full seal goggle what constitutes a goggle? something with a strap to keep them on?
Image
I have these glasses and in the back of the arms (top of this picture) they have a rubber piece that can be removed so i could easily add a strap would they then be legal if they aren't already?

would greatly appreciate any clarification i could get, i'd rather hear it from the horses mouth, cause some people say full seal, some say full seal goggle, and the core ruleset for this ao has yet to be posted and we are almost too close to be able to last minute order something if we needed too. any information would be greatly appreciated.

What if a retention strap was added to keep it tight?

I'll run it by John. But... I would make plans for an alternate goggle set to be safe.

III. Rules of Engagement Guidelines
Safety
Eye safety first: make sure that your full seal goggles are on prior to entering the AO. Goggle rules are strictly enforced. Mesh goggles –no matter what kind of mesh– are prohibited. Only full seal goggles

The core rule set answers many questions for those that take time to read it.

Re: Quick Question on Goggles

its really unfortunate that there was not a goggle check...

cause i seen at least 5 with the setup above that i talked about with a retention strap to hold them on... unfortunately we were told no go here, but no one there to check for that.

all in all was a great experience. and for a first run was not bad, just something i noticed i thought worth mentioning.

No offense rhoads, but there was indeed a goggle check. If you had issue why did you not ask a staff member or myself for clarification? I was very visible during the entire weekend. I did not receive Johns ok till we were onsite Friday. The players you saw were ok'd on site. We also watched on the field and many were called down for tryin to defog that set up on the field. Thats why we announced help with fog treatment by Parafrog after scenario1. By Sunday morning I noticed many that started with that set up had moved onto goggles because of that issue. So please do not post a misleading comment as to staff did not check goggles. we most certainly checked goggles even while you were waiting to deploy staff looked for no go eyepro. Alot goes on behind the scene's at LC events no one ever see's or hears, I assure you safety is a primary duty. Tray to see it from our point of view. We get bitched at when people think we didn't do something and then when we call you down for doing something people bitch and say staff were mean to them. So we get it either way, so we have nothin to lose by enforcing rules and that we did. It all goes to the saying the only dumb question is the one unasked. Next time please feel free to come to me with any question or concern.

Respectfully, Michael (dogsoldier) Johnson CoS OPSC
