Operation Irene VIII date change...new date Oct. 29-31, 2010

All,

Just spoke with John who wanted me to pass this info along ASAP and was not near a computer at the time....

We had a tentative date of Sept. 24-26 lined up for Irene this year, but the "tentative" part was that a particular military group also had "tentative" needs for the same date. The will not be totally sure they will need the site until perhaps 2 weeks out or less. As we could not wait that long to find out (and everyone needs time to plan, schedule time off, make travel arrangements, etc...) we decided to go with an alternate date that we could lock in for the event.

The date this year for Operation Irene VIII, to be held at Ft. Knox's Zussman Urban Training Center again, will be the weekend of Oct. 29-31, 2010.

We truly hope this does not inconvenience anyone being over the "Halloween" weekend, but it is the only date we could lock in at this facility this fall in the time window needed. Start planning now...and at least it will be a bit cooler that time of year :)

John will begin to put all that together now that a date is set. Look for announcements here concerning registration, cost, etc...and via the email newsletter if you are signed up for that.

Also for pre-planning purposes if it helps, expect the uniform requirements and sides to be the same as last year.

Being that the dates are now locked in, is there a set date for registration?

Oct 31?
Ouch. Halloween weekend and a couple weeks after Bulldog.

That's gonna be tough. Bulldog's dates conflict with a work mtg so I was really looking forward to Irene.

But leaving the family at Halloween will be tough.k

I and my band of misfits from Airsoft Louisville will be there.

Halloween is made up kids/Hallmark 'holiday' anyway.

Doesn't matter if it's "made up" or not - it's an important holiday for families with young kids.

Unfortunately the date change is gonna make Irene a no go for many of the DFW Warpigs.

We're gonna attend Bulldog instead. I hope the date change for Irene doesn't hurt BD registration.

Re: Operation Irene VIII date change...new date Oct. 29-31,

Was planning on attending Bulldog myself this year....unfortunately the date change has the same affect. We take what date we can at this facility in the window that Op Irene has always had, first Sept. to end of Oct. and this was the date that was left after the first could not be confirmed. At this particular facility because of the nature it's clients and their deployments, there will always be this kind of possible change on an earlier date. It's nothing new, we deal with it every year (and are happy to, our military MUST and SHOULD always come first, we are just lucky lucky guests when there). It is unfortunate that both Bulldog and Irene are so close together, but "it is what it is" as they say and I believe both events will be fine. Those who are able to do both will be very fortunate indeed.

looks like I will be driving to KY on my birthday. ... Can't think of a better way to spend it than prepping for OPI. See you all there.

Clinkman, sorry I won't get to see you this year at Irene - but I understand the limitations Zussman imposes on airsoft planning. You're right - the military comes first, we're just guests.

On the bright side, the new facility at Ft Hood looks fantastic, so Bulldog should be great this year. I'm looking forward to it.

This date change will enable me to make Irene this year! I thought I was going to miss out due to my wonderful full expenses paid vacation to Iraq, but now I can. Looking forward to the event (Come on block leave!)

Good date ... almost an anniversary date. I'm looking forward to my first OP IRENE and the ability to honor and remember the troops from 17 years ago.
